Effect of probiotics-fortified enteral nutrition combined with dietary guidance on gastrointestinal function rehabilitation in elderly patients after gastrointestinal disease operation
Objective To observe the effect of probiotics-fortified enteral nutrition(PFEN)combined with dietary guid-ance on the rehabilitation of gastrointestinal function in elderly patients after gastrointestinal disease operation. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on 88 elderly patients with gastrointestinal diseases who underwent sur-gery in our hospital from March 2021 to March 2022.The patients were divided into groups according to the way of post-operative nutritional treatment.Forty patients receiving conventional nutritional treatment were included in the control group, while 48 patients receiving PFEN were included in the observation group. The levels of albumin(ALB),prealbu-min(PAB)and total protein(TP),the occurrence of gastrointestinal reactions, recovery time and the counts of intestinal flora such as bifidobacterium, lactobacillus and enterococcus were compared between the two groups. Results Before treatment, there were no significant differences in ALB,PAB and TP levels between the two groups(P>0.05).After 4 weeks of treatment, the levels of ALB,PAB and TP increased, but these three indexes in the observation group were high-er than those in the control group(P<0.05).The total incidence of gastrointestinal reactions such as acid reflux, bloating and constipation in the observation group was 6.3%,lower than the 22.5%in the control group, with statistically signific-ant difference(P<0.05);the time to recovery, time to first exhaust, time to first defecation and hospital stay after surgery were shorter than those in the control group, and the difference between groups was statistically significant(P<0.05).Be-fore treatment, there was no difference in intestinal flora between the two groups(P>0.05).After treatment, the counts of intestinal bifidobacterium and lactobacillus in the observation group were higher, and the count of enterococcus was lower than those in the control group respectively, with statistical significances(P<0.05).Conclusion Probiotics combined with dietary guidance can significantly improve the nutritional level and gastrointestinal function of elderly patients with gastrointestinal diseases after operation, improve the intestinal flora and shorten the prognosis of patients.
