Gut bacteria of Rattus tanezumi in Chongqing section of Three Gorges Reservoir area,China based on high throughput sequencing
Objective To reveal the structure and diversity of microbial community in guts of Rattus tanezumi in Chongqing section of the Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR)area, and grasp the background data of pathogens carried by Rat-tus tanezumi in the reservoir area. Methods High throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA V3-V4 regions was performed on 32 fecal samples of Rattus tanezumi from the Chongqing section of the TGR area, followed by species annotation and ana-lysis of gut bacterial diversity, abundance and community structure. Results The gut bacterial communities of Rattus tanezumi in the Chongqing section of the TGR area mainly included three phyla, namely Firmicutes,Bacteroidetes and Pro-teobacteria.At the genus level, the dominant bacterial genera were Lactobacillus,Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group and Cellulosilyticum. The similarity of gut bacterial communities in Rattus tanezumi varied among different counties(districts). The similarity of the rodent gut bacterial communities between Fengdu County(FD)and Fuling County(FL)were higher, while Yunyang(YY),Zhongxian(ZX),Kaizhou(KZ),Fengjie(FJ),and Wushan(WS)counties showed higher similarity in the gut bacterial community structure of the rodents. The similarity of bacterial community structure in autumn was higher than in spring. The sequencing results of 32 rodent fecal samples indicated the presence of pathogenic and opportun-istic bacteria such as Staphylococcus,Bifidobacterium,Salmonella and Helicobacter. Conclusion The results provided a preliminary understanding to the gut microbiota characteristics of Rattus tanezumi as well as the regional and seasonal dif-ferences in the Chongqing section of the TGR area;Rattus tanezumi carry a large number of pathogenic and opportunistic bacteria in their intestines, which should be highly valued.
