Characteristics of gut microbiota and its relationship with levels of inflammatory factors in patients with schizophrenia
Objective To analyze the characteristics of intestinal flora in schizophrenic(SCZ)patients and the relation-ship between intestinal flora and inflammatory factors. Methods A total of 68 first-episode SCZ patients admitted to the Department of Psychiatry, the Third Hospital of Quzhou City from December 2021 to December 2022 were included in the observation group.A total of 70 healthy subjects were randomly selected and included in the control group. The character-istics of intestinal flora and serum levels of inflammatory factors were observed between the two groups, and the relation-ship between intestinal flora and levels of inflammatory factors was analyzed. Results The counts of intestinal Bi-fidobacterium and Lactobacillus in the observation group were lower, while that of Bacteroides was higher than those in the control group respectively(all P<0.001).The serum inflammatory factors in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(all P<0.001).Pearson correlation analysis showed that Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus were negatively correlated with the levels of inflammatory factors(all r<0,all P<0.05),while Bacteroides was positively cor-related with the levels of inflammatory factors(all r>0,all P<0.05).Conclusion SCZ patients have intestinal flora im-balance,the count of beneficial bacteria such as Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus decreases, while that of opportunistic bacteria such as Bacteroides increases, which is closely related to the level of inflammatory factors in the body.
