Application of probiotics in poultry and livestock in Latin America
Probiotics,living microorganisms that confer benefits to the host when ingested in adequate amounts,are ex-tensively utilized in the poultry and livestock sectors across Latin American countries.The three key types,including lactic acid bacteria,Saccharomyces and Actinomycetes,have gained notable acceptance in the nations engaged,including Brazil,Mexico,Argentina and Colombia.Probiotics contribute significantly to augmenting animal growth,improving digestion,enhancing meat quality,and boosting egg and milk production in poultry and livestock.They also play a crucial role in dis-ease prevention in the above mentioned two sectors.The effectiveness of probiotics is rooted in the mechanisms such as antagonism,intestinal colonization,competitive exclusion,modulation and stimulation of the immune system,and the pro-duction of beneficial metabolites.A comprehensive review of probiotic applications in Latin America yields valuable in-sights that can inform and guide further exploration,development and safe utilization of probiotic resources in China.
