Diversity and influencing factors of gut microbiota among preschool children with different body weights
Objective To analyze the differences in diversity of gut microbiota among preschool children with different body weights, explore the correlation between children's body mass index(BMI)and gut microbiota diversity, and study the relevant factors affecting the gut microbiota. Methods This study selected 60 children aged 3-6 from kindergartens in Changzhi city and divided them into three groups based on their weight:normal group, wasting group and overweight/obesity group, with 20 children in each group.A case-control study was conducted.Fresh feces were collected from the children,DNA was extracted, and 16S rDNA sequencing technology was used to analyze the composition and di-versity of gut microbiota.A questionnaire survey was used to collect general information and lifestyle habits of the chil-dren.Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS software. Results The diversity of gut microbiota in overweight/obesity group and wasting group were lower than that in the normal group(all P<0.05).At the phylum and genus levels, there were significant differences in the composition of gut microbiota among the three groups of children. In the overweight/obesity group, the abundances of some genera in Firmicutes were higher, while those of some genera in Bacteroidetes were lower than those in the normal group respectively. In the wasting group, the abundances of some gen-era in Proteobacteria were higher, while those of some genera in Bacteroidetes were lower than those in the normal group respectively.Similar differences existed at the species level.Independent risk factors affecting the establishment of gut mi-crobiota included feeding methods, dietary structure, exercise habits, and sleep behavior, which were positively correlated with gut microbiota diversity(all P<0.05).Conclusion There are differences in the diversity and composition of gut mi-crobiota among preschool children with different body weights, and there is a negative correlation between BMI and gut microbiota diversity in children.Feeding methods, dietary structure, exercise habits and sleep behavior are adjustable factors that influence the establishment of gut microbiota.Improving lifestyle habits may help optimize gut microbiota,pre-vent and treat nutritional disorders in children.
