Fecal microbiota transplantation in treatment of early rheumatoid arthritis:research progress
Rheumatoid arthritis(RA)is an autoimmune disease with a high incidence rate and disability rate, which seri-ously affects the quality of life of patients.Early RA is mainly driven by the immune system, with mostly inconspicuous or asymptomatic symptoms. If treatment interventions are carried out in the early stages, the immune system may be more prone to"normalization".At present,anti-rheumatic drugs are commonly used in the treatment of early RA in clinical prac-tice,but they have many side effects and poor efficacy. There is an urgent need for safe and effective treatment strategies. In recent years, gut microbiota based fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)for the treatment of early RA has become a re-search hotspot.FMT,as a potential treatment method, can restore immune system dysfunction by rebuilding the ecological balance of intestinal microbiota to achieve therapeutic goals. This article mainly provides an overview of FMT for the treat-ment of intestinal diseases, and explores the feasibility of gut microbiota therapy for early RA.
