Treatment of digestive and extradigestive diseases with fecal microbiota transplantation:research progress
Fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)is a special treatment method that separates and transplants the micro-biota from the feces of healthy individuals into the intestinal tract of patients. It has been widely used for treating digestive diseases characterized by dysbiosis such as Clostridium difficile infection and inflammatory bowel disease. In addition,FMT is also used to improve a range of extradigestive diseases, such as depression, metabolic syndrome and COVID-19 in-fection.People recognized that FMT has great potential in treating microbiota-related diseases through clinical practices, but there is still a lack of comprehensive and systematic understanding on the rules of microbial colonization after FMT,which has become an important factor limiting the widespread application of FMT.This article summarizes and elaborates on the clinical research on the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases with FMT,in order to provide theoretical guidance for further clinical application of FMT.
