In this study,a mixed acid of nitric and phosphoric acid was used to digest tungsten carbide samples at high temperature, and domestic glass fiber membrane was used to collect free carbon particles in the samples. The domestic glass fiber membrane collection-infrared absorption method was established for the determination of free carbon in tungsten carbide. The influence of several key factors such as dissolution method, filtering materials, and flux dosage on the determination results was investigated, and precision and accuracy tests were conducted.Under the best working condition of the instrument, the calibration curve of steel standard was used to measure the standard samples. The measured results are basically consistent with the standard values. The relative standard deviation(RSD)was less than 1.5%(n=11).The experimental results show that this method is simple,reagent-efficient,accurate and reliable, safe, and cost-effective,fulfilling routine analytical requirements and suitable for quality control in large-scale tungsten carbide powder production.Overall, this method has been successfully applied to the determination of free carbon content in tungsten carbide.
