Pulmonary inflammatory myofibmblastic tumor misdiagnosed as central lung cancer:a case report and literature review
Objective To evaluate the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary inflammatory myofibmblastic tumor (IMT). Methods One patient's clinical database for the therapy and prognosis, who suffered from pulmonary IMT was retrospectively analyzed, and the relative literature was reviewed. Results We reported a patient of 54-year-old man diagnosed as pulmonary IMT, who presented with the symptoms of cough and right chest pain for one month. The preliminary diagnosis was right central lung cancer and the patient received a right pneumonectomy. Pathological examination and immunohistochemical staining demonstrated the diagnosis pulmonary myofibroblastoma. The patient had an eventful recovery and was discharged, with no tumor recurrence or metastasis one year postoperatively. Con-clusion The diagnosis of pulmonary IMT dependends on preoperative clinical symptoms, thoracic imaging, perioper-ative findings, postoperative pathological examination and immunohistochemical staining of the tumor. Complete re-section of the tumor is the only way achieving full rehabilation.
