Ultrasound evaluation of atherosclerosis in early rheumatoid arthritis
Objective To evaluate atherosclerosis in early rheumatoid arthritis(RA) with ultrasonography. Methods 85 patients of early RA and 60 health volunteers were evaluated by endothelial dependent flow-mediated dilation(ED - FMD)of brachial artery and intima media thickness( IMT) of carotid artery using ultrasonography. Results There were no significant differences between RA patients and controls in terms of IMT and ED-FMD. Conclusion No signs of atherosclerosis were found by ultrasonography in patients with early RA.
