Analysis on fatalness of hypertension combined with carotid artery atherosclerosis
Objective To investigate the fatalness of hypertensive combined with carotid artery atherosclerosis, and the effect of ankle-brachial index (ABI) and blood lipid Lp(a) in the prediction of carotid atherosclerosis. Methods 49 patients with hypertension hospitalized in our hospital from 2010 January to 2011 June were enrolled in the study, while 50 non-hypertensive patients were selected hospitalized in our hospital as control group. Brachial index .blood lipid Lp(a) and carotid intima media thickness of all subjects were measured. Results The blood lipids and thickness of the carotid artery of hypertensive group were significantly higher than the non-hypertensive group, and the difference between two groups were statistically significant (P<0.05); and ABI significantly lower than non-hypertensive group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0. 05). The carotid artery intima-media thickness of ABI≤1.0 and ABI>1.0 group was(0. 93±0.16) mm and (0. 76±0.19) mm respectively. The difference was statistically sig-nificant(P<0.05) .indicating the correlation between lower ABI and carotid atherosclerosis. Conclusion There are strong correlation between ABI values, lipid Lp(a) levels and hypertension. The test is simple and does not require special equipment, and it is worth applicate widely in clinical practice.
