In view of the faults of high exhaust temperature,black smoke,and steam bubbling at the appara-tus pipe outlet of the crankcase breather of the left main engine for a ship,this paper carries out investigations from three aspects:main engine,shafting and hull.After investigation,the paper finds that the ship has problems such as center line deviation of shafting,bending of the stern shaft,leakage of the cylinder head,and large pitch of the propeller.By raising the main engine and gear box to repair the axis deviation,straightening the stern shaft,replac-ing the cylinder head,and other measures,it solves the above problems.
