Monitoring and analysis of bacterial contamination in dental unit waterlines in medical institutions in Nanjing City
Objective To understand the management and contamination status of dental unit waterlines(DUWLs)in medical institutions in Nanjing, and to provide a basis for further scientific intervention. Methods Using questionnaire survey and bacterial culture methods, the current status of disinfection management and bacterial contamination of DUWLs in 29 medical institutions in Nanjing were investigated. Results For 15 items investigated, there were statistically significant differences among hospitals at all levels in three items, including dental chair units equipped with DUWLs disinfection system, water heater, and washed by water and air flushing before and after treatment(χ2=7.469,6.323,1.509,P<0.05).The total qualified rate of DUWLs was 59.9%,and the qualified rates of the primary and lower, secondary and tertiary hospitals were 42.4%,66.1%and 67.9%,respectively,and the differences were statistically significant(χ2=10.706,P=0.005).The qualified rates of water sample in stomatological hospitals, departments of stomatology in general hospitals and dental departments(including dental clinics)in community health service centers were 69.1%,67.7%and 42.2%,respectively,and the differences were statistically significant(χ2=12.259,P=0.002).Conclusion There are differences in dental treatment water among medical institutions at all levels in Nanjing City.the management level should be improved, and the daily disinfection and maintenance of DUWLs should be strengthened.
