A survey on the knowledge, attitude and behavior of bed units cleaning and disinfection among ward cleaning staff in a tertiary hospital
Objective To investigate the knowledge, attitude, and behavior of bed units cleaning and disinfection among ward cleaning staff in a tertiary hospital, and to explore improvement strategies based on existing problems. Methods Based on the theory of knowledge, attitude, and behavior, this study designed a questionnaire and conducted a face-to-face survey on 69 on-duty cleaning staff from 45 wards of the hospital from January to March 2023.Results The overall score rate of knowledge, attitude, and behavior in cleaning and disinfection of bed units among ward cleaning staff was 85.6%,with knowledge score<behavior score<attitude score. This survey showed that the male cleaning staff in the ward of the hospital had higher scores in knowledgem attitude and behavior about bed unit cleaning and disinfection than female cleaning staff(P<0.05).Cleaning staff who had been engaged in cleaning work for less than one year had lowest overall score of knowledge, attitude and behavior. The attitude score of cleaning staff in high-risk wards were higher than those of cleaning staff in medium-risk wards(P<0.05).Conclusion There are some problems in the cleaning and disinfection knowledge of the wards in the hospital, such as vague concepts(such as high-frequency contact surfaces),unclear cleaning and disinfection principles and daily disinfection frequency. So it is necessary to further improve training and supervision methods, pay attention to the management of female cleaning staff in double cleaning positions, and strengthen the training and supervision of cleaning staff who have worked within one year.
