Comparison of Two Methods for the Determination of Antioxidant BHT in Laundry Detergents
This paper utilized gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography(UPLC)to analyze the content of the antioxidant butylated hydroxytoluene(BHT)in laundry detergents.and analyzed the results to search a quick, simple and accurate method for the determination of BHT in laundry detergents. The results indicated that both GC-MS and UPLC were suitable for determining the antioxidant BHT content in laundry detergents. The two methods had good linearity in their respective concentration ranges(0.05~10.01 mg/L by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and 0.80~50.05 mg/L by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography),with correlation coefficients(R)exceeding 0.999.The precision ranged from 1.32%to 3.22%for GC-MS and from 0.76%to 1.81%for UPLC.The recoveries were 102.04%~112.80%and 98.67%~103.48%.The detection limits were 0.5 mg/kg and 5 mg/kg.These data pointed that ultra-high performance liquid chromatography(UPLC)provided rapid detection and accurate quantification, while gas chromatography mass spectrometry(GC-MS)offered lower detection limits and could be utilized for precise qualification.
