A Study on the Synthesis of Isooctyl Laurate Catalyzed by Methanesulfonic Acid Supported on Montmorillonite
Isooctyl laurate was synthesized from Lauric acid and isooctanol.Methanesulfonic Acid Supported on Montmorillonite was selected as the catalyst. The experimental results showed that the catalyst had good catalytic performance.Single-factor optimization identified the optimal process conditions as:catalyst dosage of 0.5%,reaction temperature of 150℃,molar ratio of 1.3:1,and reaction time of 8 hours. The crude product was purified by removing alcohol and acid. The crude product was purified by removing alcohol and acid and the esterification rate of lauric acid could reach 99.5%.The catalyst can be reused multiple times, and after reusing 4 times, the esterification rate can still reach 94%.
