This paper uses palmitic acid and 2-ethylhexanol (isooctanol) as the raw materials synthesized isooctyl palmitate. By comparing and examining five different catalysts,it was found that titanate had the best catalytic effect. After selecting titanium ester as the catalyst and using esterification rate as the evaluation index,a 4-factor 4-level orthogonal experiment was designed to investigate the effects of catalyst dosage, reaction time, reaction temperature, and acid alcohol molar ratio on the esterification rate of isooctyl palmitate. The results showed that the order of influence on esterification rate was molar ratio of palmitic acid to isooctanol>reaction temperature>reaction time>catalyst dosage. The optimal process parameter conditions are to use 0.8% mass fraction of titanium ester as catalyst, reaction time of 6 hours, reaction temperature of 195 ℃,and a molar ratio of palmitic acid to isooctanol of 1∶1.6. Under these process conditions, the esterification rate of the reaction can reach 99.86%.
