Screening of watermelon rootstocks resistant to southern root-knot nematode
The root-knot nematode is serious disease of watermelon in the world, and watermelon cultivar resistance to southern root-knot nematodes has not been identified. Therefore,we evaluated seventy-five accessions of cucurbit crops, including 32 pumpkin,23 watermelon and 20 winter squash by artificial inoculation in the greenhouse. The study showed that the resistance varied in germplasms from different crops.Ignoring genotypic differences, the order of average disease indexes of different crops from high to low is watermelon, pumpkin, and winter squash.Four C.lanatus var.citroides (‘PI 606135’‘PI 482298’ ‘PI 189225’ ‘PI 482324’) were identified as moderately resistant to southern root-knot nematodes.
