Effects of salicylic acid on seed germination and seedling growth of bitter gourd under salt stress
To explore the effect of salicylic acid(SA)on the growth of bitter gourd under salt stress,Liangku No.1 bitter gourd was used as the test material, and the effects of different concentrations(0.001,0.01,0.1,1.0 mmol·L-1)SA on seed germination and seedling growth of bitter gourd under 150 mmol·L-1 NaCl stress were studied. The results showed that 0.01 mmol·L-1 SA treatment significantly improved the germination rate, germination potential, germination index, viability index, plant height, leaf area, root length, net mass, and dry mass of bitter gourd under salt stress.0.1 mmol·L-1 SA treatment significantly improved the germination rate, germination potential, leaf area, net mass, and dry mass of bitter gourd, and had no significant effect on the germination index, vitality index, plant height, and root length of seedlings.0.01 mmol·L-1 SA treatment significantly increased the activity of antioxidant enzymes(SOD,POD,CAT),the content of proline and soluble sugar, and significantly reduced the content of malondialdehyde in bitter gourd seed-lings.0.1 mmol·L-1 SA treatment significantly increased the POD activity and the content of proline and soluble sugar in bitter gourd seedlings but had no significant effect on the activity of SOD,CAT,and the content of malondialdehyde. In summary, applying exogenous SA at a certain concentration can alleviate the salt damage of bitter gourd. In this experiment, the best treatment concentration of SA was 0.01 mmol·L-1.
