Effects of exogenous hormones on lateral branch development,mem-brane lipid peroxidation and photosynthetic characteristics of watermel-on seedlings
In order to investigate the effects of plant hormones on lateral branch development, membrane lipid peroxida-tion reaction and photosynthetic characteristics of watermelon seedlings, three hormones, exogenous growth hormone[indole acetic acid(IAA)],cytokinin[6-benzylaminopurine(6-BA)]and abscisic acid(ABA)were selected for the experiment,Huangxiaoyu watermelon as the test material, and spraying treatments were designed with different concen-trations of different hormones, and watermelon seedling height, stem thickness were measured regularly, lateral branch length,MDA content,SOD activity,POD activity, net photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance and intercellular CO2 concentration were measured regularly. The results showed that the effects of exogenous phytohormone treatments on lateral branch development, membrane lipid peroxidation and photosynthetic characteristics of watermelon varied greatly, and low concentrations of IAA inhibited the development of watermelon lateral branches, promoted plant growth, increased SOD and POD activity, reduced MDA content, increased net photosynthetic rate, stomatal conduc-tance,inter-cellular CO2 concentration, and enhanced the rate of transpiration;and low concentrations of 6-BA promoted the development of watermelon lateral branch length.promote plant growth, increase SOD and POD activity, reduce MDA content, enhance net photosynthetic rate, and increase stomatal conductance;ABA could inhibit the development of lateral branches of watermelon seedlings, inhibit plant growth, reduce SOD activity, increase MDA content, and reduce the intercellular CO2 concentration of watermelon seedlings.
