Active ingredients and antioxidant capacity analysis of different solvent extracts from melon seeds
In this study, distilled water,70% ethanol and 70% acetone respectively were used as solvent to extract flavo-noids,polyphenols and polysaccharides from five different cultivars of melon seeds(Hualaishi,Yinmi,Xizhoumi,Yufei and Hongmi). The correlation analysis between bioactive components and their antioxidant ability were explored. The results showed that fractions extracted by 70% ethanol from all samples expressed the best anti-redox capacity by significantly scavenging DPPH and ABTS+radicals. Moreover, fractions extracted by 70% ethanol from Hualaishi melon seeds had the highest amount of total flavonoids(94.74 mg·g-1)and total polyphenols(35.90 mg·g-1)and fractions ex-tracted by distilled water from Hualaishi melon seeds had the highest amount of total polysaccharides(159.29 mg·g-1). The results of correlation analysis showed that the amount of total flavonoids and total polyphenols had significant positive correlations with the ability of scavenging DPPH,ABTS+radicals and anti-redox. In conclusion,70% ethanol was a potential preferences for extracting bioactive components from melon seeds and the findings would establish a theoretical basis for further research of by-products produced by Hetao melon.
