Breeding of a new bitter gourd cultivar Linong E39 Jizao
Linong E39 Jizao is a new early-maturing bitter melon variety developed by crossing the inbred line EG176-4 as the female parent and the inbred line B6039 as male parent.This variety exhibits strong plant growth and branching ability,with both and lateral vines capable of bearing fruit,resulting in high fruit setting rate.The time from sowing to first harvest is approximately 76 days in spring(57 days in autumn)in open field conditions.The fruit is long and conical,with green,lustrous skin,straight ridges,an attractive appearance.On average,the fruit length is 30.3 cm,the diameter is 6.7 cm,the flesh thickness is 1.1 cm,and the single fruit mass is 500 g.The yield is around 2400 kg·667 m-2 in general cultivation conditions.The quality is excellent,with moderate bitter taste,and it shows intermediate resistance to Fusarium wilt.It is suitable for spring and autumn in Guangdong province and in regions with similar ecological conditions.
