The status quo and influencing factors of acquired immune deficiency syndrome voluntary counseling and testing in middle-aged and elderly male sexually transmitted disease outpatients
Objective To investigate and analyze the status quo and influencing factors of acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS)voluntary counseling and testing(VCT)in middle-aged and elderly male sexually transmitted disease(STD)outpatients,in order to improve the utilization rate of VCT for reference. Methods A total of 200 middle-aged and elderly male patients admitted to the STD outpatient in Zhoushan Hospital from January 2020 to December 2021 were selected as study subjects.Face-to-face communication was conducted to ask whether they had received VCT services.Univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analysis were conducted to analyze the factors affecting the acceptance of VCT services in STD outpatients. Results A total of 4 cases were excluded due to questionnaires did not meet the requirements or/and data was incomplete, and 196 cases were finally included in this study.Among 196 STD outpatients,118 cases received VCT services, accounting for 60.20%.Among them,25 cases(21.19%)received services because of the history of commercial heterosexual sex. There were statistically significant differences in the proportion of receiving VCT in different marital status, personal monthly income,AIDS prevention knowledge, hearing of VCT services, knowing VCT free, knowing VCT service confidentiality, worrying about their own human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)infection,AIDS prevention related to their own,AIDS patients having bad behavior,AIDS patients being isolated, being active to have access to AIDS knowledge, being active to help AIDS patients and their families, and being active to seek help if infected(P<0.05).Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that marital status(unmarried, divorced or widowed),HIV patients being isolated, knowing VCT services confidentiality, worrying about their own HIV infection, and AIDS prevention related to their own were correlated with patients receiving VCT services(P<0.05).The positive rate of HIV in patients who received VCT services and tests was 4.24%.Conclusions The proportion of middle-aged and elderly male STD outpatients who have received VCT services is above the medium level.Enhancing patients'own health awareness, strengthening VCT service confidentiality and other education and eliminating"discrimination"are conducive to the promotion of VCT services and reducing the positive rate of HIV.
