Research progress of microRNAs in non-obstructive azoospermia
MicroRNAs(miRNAs)play a key role in a variety of biological processes such as cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis.Spermatogenesis is a very complex process of cell division and differentiation,in which miRNAs also play an extremely important role. The dysregulation of miRNAs expression greatly affects spermatogenesis, and the serious disorders of spermatogenesis can be manifested as non-obstructive azoospermia(NOA).Currently, microdissection testicular sperm extraction(micro-TESE)is the surgery with the highest sperm retrieval rate in NOA patients, but still half of the patients cannot retrieve sperm.Recent studies have found that the seminal plasma miRNAs have shown certain potential in predicting sperm retrieval of micro-TESE.In this review, the role of miRNAs in NOA and the correlation model of seminal plasma miRNAs in predicting sperm retrieval in micro-TESE were reviewed, and the possibility of miRNAs as a potential therapeutic target for NOA was discussed.
