Study on serum nitric oxide and nitric oxide synthase in predicting erectile dysfunction in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia after surgery
Objective To explore the predictive value of serum nitric oxide(NO)and nitric oxide synthase(NOS)on erectile dysfunction in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)after surgery. Methods A total of 86 patients with BPH who were scheduled to undergo surgical treatment in the Second People's Hospital of Jiashan County,Zhejiang from March 2020 to October 2022 were selected as study objects.Serum NO and NOS levels were detected in all patients within 7 days after surgery. The incidence of erectile dysfunction was evaluated 6 months after surgery. The clinical value of serum NO and NOS in predicting erectile dysfunction in patients with BPH after surgery was analyzed. Results The incidence of postoperative erectile dysfunction in 86 BPH patients was 47.67%(41/86).There were significant differences in international prostate symptom score(IPSS)and serum prostaglandin E2 level between the occurrence group and the non-occurrence group(P<0.05).On the 7 days after surgery, the serum NO and NOS levels in the occurrence group were lower than before surgery and lower than those in the non-occurrence group(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that the influencing factors of erectile dysfunction in patients with BPH after surgery were high IPSS and low levels of serum NO,NOS and prostaglandin E2(P<0.05).Plotting receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve showed that the area under the curve(AUC)of NO,NOS alone and their combination in predicting erectile dysfunction in patients with BPH after surgery were 0.808,0.837 and 0.887,respectively,which had certain predictive value.Among them, the combined prediction was the best. Conclusions Serum NO and NOS have good clinical value in predicting erectile dysfunction in patients with BPH after surgery.
