Relationship between the changes in serum fibroblast growth factor 2,brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels and postpartum depression
Objective To investigate the changes in serum fibroblast growth factor 2(FGF2)and brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)levels in patients with postpartum depression(PPD)and to analyze their relationship with the severity of the condition. Methods A total of 96 cases of PPD patients admitted to Lishui Second People's Hospital from October 2020 to October 2022 were selected as the study subjects and set as the PPD group.Another 96 cases of normal women in labor during the same period were randomly selected and set as the control group. The baseline data of the two groups were recorded.Serum FGF2 and BDNF levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the severity of PPD was evaluated by Edinburgh postnatal depression scale(EPDS).Pearson method was used to analyze the correlation between serum FGF2,BDNF levels and EPDS scores in PPD patients.Multivariable Logistic regression was used to analyze the possible factors influencing the occurrence of PPD.Results The proportion of prenatal depression, the proportion of depression during pregnancy,EPDS score,self-rating anxiety scale(SAS)score and self-rating depression scale(SDS)score were higher in the PPD group than those in the control group(P<0.05).Serum FGF2 and BDNF levels in the PPD group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).Serum FGF2 levels in patients with PPD were negatively correlated with EPDS scores(r=-0.564,P<0.05),and serum BDNF levels were negatively correlated with EPDS scores(r=-0.493,P<0.05).FGF2 and BDNF were protective factors for the occurrence of PPD in labor women(P<0.05),and prenatal depression and depression during pregnancy were risk factors for the occurrence of PPD in labor women(P<0.05).Conclusions FGF-2 and BDNF are lowly expressed in the serum of PPD patients, and both of them are negatively correlated with the EPDS score, which may have some clinical application value in the remission of PPD.
