Research progress on oxidative stress and male reproductive health
The incidence of infertility is relatively high globally, with the male factors accounting for 30%-50%.Oxidative stress is considered one of the main causes of male infertility.Excessive production of reactive oxygen species and/or inadequate antioxidant defense ability in vivo can lead to pathological processes such as lipid peroxidation,DNA damage, and increased cell apoptosis in male germ cells and sperm, ultimately resulting in male reproductive problems. This article aims to elucidate the mechanism of oxidative stress, the pathological role of oxidative stress in male reproduction, biomarkers of oxidative stress in semen, and treatment for oxidative stress-related male infertility.
