Comparison of efficacy between laparoscopic surgery and small incision surgery through the external ring for treating pediatric hydrocele of the spermatic cord
Objective To compare the clinical efficacy of laparoscopic surgery and small incision surgery through the external ring for treating pediatric hydrocele of the spermatic cord. Methods A total of 100 pediatric patients with hydrocele of the spermatic cord admitted to Bengbu First People's Hospital from July 2020 to July 2022 were selected as study objects. They were divided into the study group(undergoing laparoscopic surgery)and the control group(undergoing small incision surgery through the external ring)based on the different treatment methods, with 50 cases in each group.Perioperative indicators, incidence of complications, and prognosis were compared between the two groups. Results The study group had shorter operation time and hospital stay compared to the control group, the amount of intraoperative bleeding in the study group was significantly less than control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in the incidences of complications such as testicular atrophy, incision infection, scrotal abscess, and umbilical hernia between the two groups(P>0.05).The recurrence rate in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group, with statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusions Compared to small incision surgery through the external ring, laparoscopic surgery for treating pediatric hydrocele of the spermatic cord shows better efficacy and a lower recurrence rate.
