Translation and validation of the Chinese version of the self-efficacy to communicate about sex and intimacy
Objective To translate the self-efficacy to communicate about sex and intimacy(SECSI)into Chinese version, and to test its reliability and validity in the cervical cancer patients. Methods Following Brislin's guidelines, the SECSI was translated,cross-culturally adapted, and pre-tested to create the initial Chinese version of the SECSI.A convenience sampling method was used to select cervical cancer patients admitted to two tertiary Grade A hospitals in Nantong City between May and October 2022 as study objects. The Chinese version of the SECSI was tested for its reliability and validity. Results The Chinese version of SECSI consisted of 10 items with a total Cronbach's α coefficient of 0.933 and a test-retest reliability of 0.893.The content validity index at the scale level was 0.940,with content validity indices for individual items was 0.80-1.00.The correlation coefficients between item scores and the total score was 0.735-0.839.Exploratory factor analysis revealed the extraction of two common factors. Conclusions The application of Chinese version of SECSI demonstrates good reliability and validity in cervical cancer patients, which can be used to evaluate the level of the self-efficacy to communicate about sex and intimacy in Chinese cervical cancer patients.
