The relationship between body satisfaction and interpersonal relationship distress in senior primary school students and the mediating role of self-esteem
Objective To explore the relationship between body satisfaction and interpersonal relationship in senior primary school students and the mediating role of self-esteem.Methods A cluster sampling was conducted on the students in grade 5-6 of a primary school in Tianfu New District,Chengdu.Body image state scale,Rosenberg self-esteem scale and interpersonal relationship comprehensive diagnostic scale were used to evaluate the students.Results There was a negative correlation between the body satisfaction and interpersonal relationship distress in senior primary school students(r=-0.452,P<0.001),and body satisfaction was positively correlated with self-esteem(r=0.650,P<0.001).Interpersonal relationship distress was positively correlated with self-esteem(r=-0.568,P<0.001).Body satisfaction had a predictive effect on interpersonal relationship distress(P<0.001).It could positively predict self-esteem(P<0.001),and self-esteem could negatively predict interpersonal relationship distress(P<0.001).The mediating effect accounted for 67.86%of the total effect.Conclusions The body satisfaction of senior primary school students can directly affect the interpersonal relationship distress,and the partial mediating effect of self-esteem can indirectly affect the interpersonal relationship distress.
