Research Progress on Biological Functions of Honeysuckle and Its Application in Animal Production
The honeysuckle was first recorded in the Emergency Prescription for Elbow Reserve of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and has been used for over 1 000 years in China. It is a traditional medicinal and food homologous plant, widely used in medicine, food, cosmetics, health products and animal husbandry. The honeysuckle is rich in various active ingredients such as flavonoids, organic acids, volatile oils, and iridoid glycosides. It has pharmacological functions such as bacteriostasis,anti-inflammatory,antiviral,anti-tumor,antioxidant,reducing glycolipids, regulating immunity, and protecting the liver.Honeysuckle as a good new feed additive, its functions are similar to feed antibiotics, can prevent disease, promote growth and ensure meat quality. However, there is relatively little research on the application of honeysuckle and its extracts in animal production. This article reviews the biological functions of honeysuckle and its extracts,as well as their application in animal production, with a view to providing a reference for the follow-up research and rational development and utilization of honeysuckle resources.
