The pig industry is the backbone of China's livestock industry, and China's pig breeding and pork consumption both account for more than 50%of the world, but the performance of breeding pigs has a large gap with foreign countries. Therefore, breeding breeding pigs with independent intellectual property rights and excellent traits is the key to ensure the sustainable and healthy development of China's pig breeding industry, and revealing the genetic mechanism of important economic traits is the basis for breed improvement.Epigenomics is a discipline that studies chemical modifications and spatial structural changes on the genome that affect the regulation of gene expression and function without changing the nucleotide sequence, and has been widely used in pig genetic breeding in recent years.Epigenomics has outstanding advantages in explaining molecular functional mechanisms, exploring functional targets and probing evolutionary processes, and provides new ideas for studying the biomolecular regulatory mechanisms of complex traits and environmental adaptations in pigs. This article summarizes the current status and trend of epigenomics research in pig genetic breeding, and provides a reference for elucidating the formation mechanism of important economic traits in pigs.
