Research Progress on Application of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Products in Boar Semen
Artificial insemination technology not only enhances breeding efficiency,but also facilitates cross-regional genetic exchange and improves production performance.The breeding rate is a crucial indicator that determines the efficiency of pig farms,which is influenced by various factors.One of the significant factors is the quality of boar semen.Additionally,high-quality boar semen can contribute to genetic improvement,reduce feed consumption and weight gain ratio,and enhance population structure.Therefore,ensuring the quality of boar semen is of utmost importance.Traditional Chinese medicine and natural extracts are increasingly utilized in boar semen preservation due to their advantages of good antioxidant and antibacterial properties,low drug resistance,and minimal toxic and side effects.This article aims to review the application of traditional Chinese medicine and natural products in enhancing boar semen quality,specifically in four aspects:improving semen antioxidant capacity,antibacterial ability,sperm osmotic pressure tolerance,increasing semen collection volume,and reducing sperm deformity rate.The findings of this review can serve as a theoretical basis and reference guide for the production of high-quality semen.
