On the Origin and Evolution of the CPC's Proposition of"Coalition Government":A Discourse Analysis Based on Important Documents of the Party(1931-1955)
After the outbreak of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression,to establish,consolidate and expand the national united front against Japanese aggression,the CPC put forward the political proposition of"coalition government"as the main historical line,putting it in terms of"national defense government","united front government","coalition government",etc.,as the organization form of the united front.However,this proposi-tion for a united front was not truly accepted by the Kuomintang.Until the War of Liberation,with the establish-ment and expansion of the people's democratic united front,the idea of a"coalition government"became a solu-tion accepted by all walks of life and all the parties in China,and the concept of"coalition government"centered on the CPC then excluded the counter-revolutionary forces of the big landlords and big bourgeoisie.Upon its victo-ry in the Liberation War,the Party adopted the term of a united"people's government"to represent a broader class foundation.However,the term of"national democratic coalition government"was still used in some ethnic areas in the wake of the founding of the People's Republic and became disused until the end of 1955.
