Analysis of style characteristics and smoke attributes of cigarette with different circumferences
[Objective]This study aims to investigate the influence of cigarette circumference on the style characteristics of flue-cured tobacco leaves and the attributes of cigarette smoke.[Method]Using typical tobacco leaves(C3F)from the eight major aroma types of flue-cured tobacco regions as materials, medium, regular, and slim cigarette samples were prepared.Sensory evaluation, conventional smoke indices, and aroma component analysis were conducted to study the variations in style characteristics and smoke attributes of flue-cured tobacco leaves from the eight major aroma ecological regions with changes in cigarette circumference.[Results](1)The aroma style of cigarettes made from tobacco leaves of different ecological regions varies with the circumference;as the rolling circumference decreases, the style characteristics of the tobacco leaf cigarettes tend to weaken.(2)The quality characteristics of cigarettes made from tobacco leaves of different ecological regions differ with the circumference;as the rolling circumference decreases, sensory indicators such as aroma amount, permeability, and cohesiveness show a decreasing trend, while irritancy, dryness, and delicacy show an improving trend.(3)With the reduction in rolling circumference, the mainstream smoke releases of tar, nicotine, and CO from cigarettes made from tobacco leaves of different ecological regions decrease.(4)With the reduction in rolling circumference, except for the tobacco leaves from the Harbin ecological region of Heilongjiang, the mainstream smoke TPM release per puff of cigarettes made from other ecological regions follows the order of king-size>regular>slim.The per puff release of aroma components such as phenols, acids, esters, lactones, amides, and phytadienes is generally medium cigarette≥normal cigarette>slim cigarette, while for aldehydes, hydrocarbons, heterocycles, alcohols, and ketones,it is generally medium cigarette>normal cigarette≥slim cigarette.
