Characterizing compressive strength of pellet ore based on micro-pore structure captured through industrial CT
The micro-pore distribution and porosity of pellet ore significantly affect its properties. The micro-pore structure of pellet ore was characterized by X-ray computed tomography(CT)and the pores were classified into mi-cro-pores(D<20 μm),meso-pores(20 μm≤D≤60 μm),and macro-pores(D>60 μm)based on their size(D).The relationship between pore size and compressive strength was analyzed and a porosity index(Ip)was proposed to characterize the compressive strength of pellet ore.The results show that under relatively stable raw material condi-tions,the higher the Ip,the greater the proportion of micro-pore less than 20 μm in the pellet ore,and the greater the compressive strength of pellet ore. This method can accurately obtain the basic characteristics of pellet ore and express its porosity and compressive strength after scaling. It provides a new analysis method for researchers and practitioners and a new indicator for evaluating pellet ore quality.
