Effect of tundish structure optimization on flow state of molten steel
In order to remove inclusions and improve the cleanliness of the molten steel,it is necessary to optimize the structure of the tundish to improve the flow state of the molten steel inside the tundish. The RTD(Residence Time Distribution)curve obtained by physical or numerical simulation is an important method for optimizing the structure of tundish through analyzing the residence time and flow field region.Dimensionless quantities were con-verted by filtering, organizing and summarizing the data of single or two strand tundishes through literature re-search.The effects of structural parameters such as the width, liquid level height,inlet-outlet spacing, sidewall in-clination angle of tundish, the height and cross-sectional area of the turbulence inhibitor,as well as the position and height of the weir and dam on residence time and flow field were summarized. The optimal ratios of different struc-tural parameters for tundish and flow control devices were also summarized. The results show that ratio of width to length of the tundish should be 0.15-0.30,ratio of liquid level height to tundish length should be 0.15-0.30,ratio of inlet-outlet spacing to tundish length should be 0.8-0.9,and the inclination angle of tundish sidewall should be 10°-15°.For turbulence inhibitors, ratio of turbulence inhibitor height to liquid level height should be 0.1-0.2 and ratio of its cross-sectional area to cross-sectional area of tundish bottom should be close to 0.15.The ratio of dis-tance between weir and shround to length of tundish should be close to 0.2,the ratio of height to liquid level should be close to 0.4 or 0.7,ratio of distance between weir and dam to length of tundish should be 0.05-0.10,and ratio of dam height to liquid level should be around 0.3.The results provide a certain degree of guidance for the structural design of the tundish.
