Participation of Local People for World Heritage Management in Thailand
Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex World Heritage Site is one of the most significant world heritage sites in Thailand, and it comprises five almost contiguous world heritage sites. In this site as well as other heritage sites in Thailand, there are some problems, but generally speaking, the participation of local people the protection and management of has been valued. Thailand has achievements in two aspects, which are community involvement in forest management to be given legal standing and demonstration and pilot projects for joint management of world heritage site and forests. There arc some challenges if there is lack of participation of local people in world heritage management. In the future, monitored agreements for community-based resource management should be identified, and the forestry and natural resource management professionals should have new skills.
