A Study of Human Mood and Stress Recovery by Auditory and Olfactory Stimulation of Plum Blossoms in Urban Green Space
As the most accessible natural green space in city, urban green space has the effect of relieving residents'stress and promoting their physical and mental health. In order to investigate the effects of sound and plum blossom aroma on people's mood and stress recovery in urban green spaces,an experimental study was designed and conducted.Plum blossoms were chosen as the olfactory stimulus, and common sounds(human voice and water sound)in urban green spaces were used as the auditory stimulus.100 people were recruited and randomly divided into 5 experimental groups, who first performed a stress learning task, and then recovered from stress, and the experiments were conducted by using the Emotiv Epoc X Portable Electroencephalogram(EEG),Omron Blood Pressure Monitor(BP),and the Simple Outcome Measure(POMS)to analyze the mood changes and stress recovery of different groups. The results showed that:1)the brainwave mood showed that all experimental groups caused the stress value of the subjects to decrease and the relaxation value to increase, the relaxation and interest value of the plum blossom group was the highest, the involvement and excitement value of the water sound group was the lowest, the excitement and concentration value of the human sound group was the highest, and the involvement value of the plum blossom & human sound group was the highest;2)the results of the POMS Scale showed that the four groups, except for the human sound group, had an increase, while the other four groups showed a decreasing tendency;3)the results of systolic and diastolic blood pressure results also showed that, except for the increase in the vocals group, the other groups showed a decreasing trend of different degrees. The study is intended to provide scientific suggestions for the design of plum blossom landscapes in subsequent urban green areas.
