The Difficulties and Experience of Students'Independent Construction of Comprehensive Rainwater Garden
Campus construction refers to an independent design initiative within the campus,with teachers and students as the main participants.Since 2016,Peking University has been exploring the path of student independent involvement in campus development.It has initially established a model that shifts from passive invitations to active initiation,utilizing student organizations as platforms,promoting collaboration among students from various disciplines,and engaging multiple stakeholders.The model explores a fully participatory experience led by students,covering the entire process from planning,design,construction to operation for the renewal and transformation of campus spaces.This article takes the construction process of a comprehensive rainwater garden independently created by students as an example.It summarizes the difficulties and experiences encountered in the independent construction according to the Problem Based Learning(PBL)requirements.The article also provides a detailed analysis of strategies to stimulate and maintain student independence,aiming to offer valuable industry experience for expanding rainwater gardens and broader independent participatory construction in established environments.
