This paper examines the development of green growth coalitions in Shanghai, focusing on Huangxing and Century Parks, and their impact on the effectiveness and quality of urban green spaces. The comparative findings elucidate that the successful formation of green growth coalitions has indeed enhanced the efficacy and quality of urban green space development in China. It also explores the associated risk of green gentrification, revealing a nuanced challenge to spatial justice through socio-spatial differentiation and intergenerational wealth exploitation that differs from the direct capital exploitation of the Global North.
