The Moving Xiegongdun(Mound of Xie An):Mobility of the Event-based Cultural Landscape
Xiegongdun(Mound of Xie An)is a famous cultural landscape in Nanjing, but its appearance is very complicated due to its several migrations in history,so few or systematic research has been conducted.Firstly, through historical analysis, the historical significance of Xiegongdun as an event-based cultural landscape is displayed.Secondly, five controversial Xiegongdun sites in Nanjing are revealed, while three of them are considered to be worth further researching through investigation,i.e.Xiegongdun on Yecheng(the Smelting Town)Mountain,Xiegongdun in Banshanyuan(Half-way Garden of Wang Anshi)and Xiegongdun on Baibupo(Hundred-step-high Hillside),whose formation mechanism and spatial locations are revealed through cross-reference of literature, drawings, maps and photos.Thirdly, through the analysis of the historical poetry related to Xiegongdun, the general changing process of people's cognition on Xiegongdun's locations is shown, and the possible internal reasons behind the changes is discussed through the corresponding historical events. Finally, the status quo is briefly introduced that the three Xiegongdun almost disappeared under the influence of urban construction. In conclusion, the landscape migration of Xiegongdun in Nanjing reflects the temporal and spatial mobility of event-based cultural landscape, which is often supported by narrative mobility, which has Chinese characteristics.Consequently, how to understand and apply this mobility is of great significance to the construction of Chinese landscape architecture.
