The Impact of Critical Illness Insurance on Multidimensional Poverty Among Rural Middle-Aged and Elderly People——An Empirical Analysis Based on CFPS
Objective:The paper explores the poverty reduction effect of critical illness insurance(CII)on rural middle-aged and elderly people from the perspective of multidimensional poverty.Method:Based on three-year panel data of China Family Panel Studies(CFPS),this paper uses time-varying DID to analyze the impact of CII on multidimensional poverty among rural middle-aged and elderly residents and its mechanism. Results:First,CII significantly reduces the multidimensional poverty index by 0.022,which has an inhibitory effect on multidimensional poverty of the samples.Second,CII has a more significant poverty reduction effect on middle-aged,low-income groups, and eastern samples.Third, reducing the intensity of catastrophic medical expenditures is the main path for CII to alleviate multidimensional poverty. Conclusion:CII has effectively alleviated multidimensional poverty of rural middle-aged and elderly people, however,in order to better play the role of CII,it is necessary to improve the financing mechanism, optimize the design of CII,promote the cooperation between government and enterprises, and strengthen the connection between systems.
