Clinical observation of the impact of maxillary cysts on condylar symmetry
Objective To investigate whether maxillary sinus cysts affect the symmetry of condylar processes in patients. Methods A total of 27 patients with maxillary sinus cysts and 28 healthy individuals were included in the study. All patients underwent Cone Beam Ccomputertomography(CBCT)before treatment. The symmetry relationship between condylar processes and mandibles was compared and analyzed between the two groups. Results The asymmetry index(CAI)of condylar processes in the experimental group was significantly different from that of the control group(P<0.05),indicating a statistically significant difference. There was no statistically significant difference in the asymmetry index(RAI)of mandibular ascending branches(P>0.05),and it was not related to gender(P>0.05)or the location of the cyst(P>0.05).There was no significant difference in the anteroposterior diameter, mediolateral diameter, condylar axis angle, distance from the geometric center of condyle to the sagittal plane, and anteroposterior distance of the geometric center of condyle between the two groups(p>0.05).Conclusion Maxillary sinus cysts have an impact on the symmetry of condylar processes in patients, regardless of gender or cyst location. This should be taken into clinical consideration for such patients.
