Progress of deep facial fat compartments and related clinical applications
Facial fat is divided into separate fat compartments by muscles,ligaments,fascia,and other tissues,and is divided into two layers by the superficial musculoaponeurotic system(SMAS).Most of the deep facial fat compartments are located between SMAS and periosteum,which plays the role of buffering,lubrication,and support.The selective enlargement or shrinkage of deep fat compartments with age can lead to wrinkling and depression of facial appearance.In the clinical treatment of facial rejuvenation,the deep facial fat compartments can be lifted or filled to achieve the effect of restoring youthful appearance and reviving youthful vitality.This paper reviews the anatomy,aging changes,and related filling techniques of deep facial fat compartments.
