Comparison of the application effects of occlusal reconstruction fixed partial denture and removable partial dentures in patients with severe tooth wear and dentition defects
Objective To investigate the application value of fixed partial denture(FPD)and removable partial denture(RPD)in the restoration of patients with severe tooth wear and dentition defect(DD).Methods A retrospective study was conducted to select 41 patients with severe tooth wear and DD who underwent occlusal reconstruction FPD repair in 990th Hospital,Joint Logistics Support Force from January 2021 to February 2024 as the observation group, and another 38 patients with severe tooth wear and DD who underwent RPD repair during the same period were selected as the control group. The repair effect was compared,as well as the temporomandibular joint function, chewing function, maxillofacial morphology parameters, and subjective sensory quality before and after repair. Results The total effective rate of the observation group(95.12%)was higher than that of the control group(76.32%),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After the repair, the joint disorder index, dysfunction index, and muscle tenderness index in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, while the chewing value, absorbance, chewing discoloration test score, comfort score, aesthetics score, and fixation score were higher than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The observation group had better rates of good occlusion of the back teeth, regular arrangement of the teeth, and good coverage and overbite of the front teeth than the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Conclusions Compared to RPD,FPD for occlusal reconstruction has a significant effect in repairing severe tooth wear with DD,improving chewing function, reducing stress response, and improving subjective sensory quality.
