Research progress on potential therapeutic targets for keloids
Keloids are characterized by excessive deposition of extracellular matrix, which manifests as excessive proliferation, resistance to apoptosis, invasion, and other malignant tumor-like characteristics. The current research on the etiology of keloids primarily revolves around genetic factors, environmental factors, cellular factors, and immune factors. These factors disrupt normal wound healing, leading to continuous activation of fibroblasts and excessive production of extracellular matrix. The current understanding of the immunopathological mechanisms of keloids provides a new perspective on the potential role of specific immune pathway treatments, which could offer new approaches for treating keloids.
