The Imaging Characteristics and Differential Diagnostic Accuracy of Extramedullary Plasmacytoma
Objective:To explore the imaging features and differential diagnosis of extramedullary plasmacytoma(EMP).Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 11 patients with pathologically confirmed EMP who visited our hospital from January 2018 to January 2023.The imaging data were analyzed and summarized. Results:Among the 11 cases of EMP,8 cases occurred in the head and neck(including 3 cases of nasal cavity and sinuses,2 cases of nasopharynx,2 cases of neck, and 1 case of skull),and 3 cases occurred in other parts(including 1 chest wall,1 lung, and 1 pelvic cavity); All 11 patients were isolated soft tissue masses, with 9 cases having uniform density/signal,2 case accompanied by cystic necrosis,1 case with calcification,3 cases with DWI high b-value diffusion limited to high/slightly high signal,6 cases with adjacent bone resorption and destruction,7 cases with surrounding tissue invasion. After enhanced scanning, most cases showed moderate to significant enhancement, and 2 case had thickened vascular shadows inside or around the mass. Conclusion:After undergoing CT and MRI imaging examinations, the lesions in EMP patients are mostly soft tissue masses with uniform density/signal,which are prone to invasion of surrounding tissues, bones, etc. This strengthens the differential diagnosis of the disease and provides scientific imaging data for subsequent disease treatment.
