Changes in Contraction Ratio of the Abdominal Muscle During Postpartum
Objective:The purpose of this study was to examine whether there are differences in abdominal muscle contraction ratio between non-pregnant women and postpartum women. To explore whether date tested postpartum, hand dominance, age, body mass index(BMI)and waist-hip ratio(WHR)influence the contraction ratio of the lateral abdominal muscles in postpartum women as measured by ultrasound imaging.Methods:30 healthy natural childbirth mothers who underwent routine postpartum follow-up at Quanzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from December 2019 to August 2020 were randomly selected as the observation group, and another 30 non pregnant young women who interned or worked at the hospital were selected as the control group.Use ultrasound imaging technology to measure the thickness of the bilateral internal oblique muscles, external oblique muscles, and transverse abdominis muscles of the female patient in supine position at end expiratory calm, after breath contraction at end of breath calm, and when bending the knee and rolling the abdomen, and calculate the rate of change in the thickness of these muscles;Use t-test to determine the possible impact of dominant hand on muscle contraction rate, and use correlation coefficients to evaluate the relationship between maternal indicators(postpartum duration, age, body mass index, waist hip ratio)and muscle contraction rate. Results:There was no significant difference in the contraction rate of the core muscles on both sides between non pregnant and postpartum women, and the contraction rate of the transverse abdominal muscle in postpartum women decreased significantly compared to non pregnant women; There was no significant correlation between postpartum duration, age, body mass index, waist to hip ratio, and core muscle contraction rate in postpartum women. Conclusion:It is found that the contraction ability of the transversus abdominis of postpartum women is significantly less than that of non-pregnant women. It seems that date tested postpartum, age,BMI and WHR have no affect on the contraction ability of the abdominal muscles in postpartum women.
