Objective:To analyze the application value of the strip-shaped light retinoscope in refractive screening for preschool children. Methods:1753 preschool children who came to our hospital for refractive screening from June 2022 to June 2024 were selected. They were provided with a ribbon-shaped light retinoscope and an international standard visual acuity chart for examination, and those with abnormal refractive error were provided with a computer optometry examination. The results of the ribbon-shaped light retinoscope were analyzed. Results:The number of abnormal cases detected by the international standard visual acuity chart was 78,the number of cases detected by the ribbon light retinoscope was 80,and the number of cases detected by computer optometry was 80,with no statistically significant difference (x2=0.029,P=0.986). The detection rate of refractive abnormalities in preschool children aged 3 years was 4.75%,with the detection rates of hyperopia, myopia, hyperopic astigmatism, and mixed astigmatism being 1.43%,2.38%,0.47%,and 0.47%,respectively. The detection rate of refractive abnormalities in preschool children aged 4 years was 3.68%,with the detection rates of hyperopia, myopia, hyperopic astigmatism, and mixed astigmatism being 1.15%,1.84%,1.15%,and 0.23%,respectively. The detection rate of refractive abnormalities in preschool children aged 5 years was 4.44%,with the detection rates of hyperopia, myopia, hyperopic astigmatism, and mixed astigmatism being 1.33%,2.44%,0.22%,and 0.44%,respectively. The detection rate of refractive abnormalities in preschool children aged 6 years was 5.37%,with the detection rates of hyperopia, myopia, hyperopic astigmatism, and mixed astigmatism being 0.90%,3.36%,0.67%,and 0.22%,respectively. There was no statistically significant difference (P>0.05) between the comparison groups. Conclusion:The application of the band-shaped light retinoscope in preschool children's refractive screening has good screening value for hyperopia, myopia, hyperopic astigmatism, and mixed astigmatism.
